U.S. DEPOSIT NOT RECEIVED – Wrong Routing Number?
[ad_1]
I’ve always had great success with Bitstamp, but this my first time wiring money to them since they’ve started using a new payment provider, and I wanted to share my experience.
On Monday October 29, 2018 I attempted a $10,000 USD wire transfer to the XTRM Inc. account at Wells Fargo Bank. However, I was informed by my bank that the routing number on Bitstamp’s bank details was incorrect.
I called the Wells Fargo branch and was informed that the correct routing number was similar to the one in Bitstamp’s bank details, but not the same. I was confused by this because Bitstamp’s website goes to great lengths to emphasize the importance of following their wiring instructions precisely.
I understand that USD wire transfers can take between 2 – 5 business days, but given the discrepancy in Wells Fargo routing numbers and the issues with Bitstamp I have seen recently on Reddit, I am now concerned that my deposit may not arrive or may be delayed.
I submitted a request to Support online, but have not heard back, which is also unusual for Bitstamp because their service has always been so prompt. I wonder if this has something to do with their new payment service or their recent acquisition? I certainly hope not, as I’d like to continue working with them and not default to Coinbase.
Anyway, I would greatly appreciate it I could get confirmation that my deposit was received, as the screwy routing number and silence from support have me concerned.
Also, as an assistance to others in the future, I think it would be a good idea to correct the routing info in the USD bank details online.
Many thanks for your help!

I kind of had this semi conversation yesterday and I think because of the new acquisition I call it the CEO wants the bill out. In My Mind by March 1st 2019 They will announce a new CEO and at that time I will pick up my toys and run to another Exchange. And the reply from someone back to me was the CEO is still CEO of the company but in my experience has been it’s a CEO sells a company is just like saying I want someone else to take care of the kids, meaning the account holders. So it sounds to me like he’s ready to pick up steaks and go elsewhere.
I’m in the same boat as you. I just submitted a ticket and I will just wait to see what happens…
Just an FYI, I called Bitstamp at 646-568-9784 and was told that yesterday and today were bank holidays. They’re apparently open 24/7, so if anyone is having trouble with deposits (or withdrawals), I would suggest they call.
I was also told that the routing number on their website works for some people (I don’t see how it would, though), and the rep gave me the routing number that I actually send my wire to. So that’s reassuring.
With the bank holidays, the soonest I can receive my wire is tomorrow. If not, they’re telling me mid-week. That’s an awfully long time. Sure hope it doesn’t take that long. If it does take 3-5 days, I will need to find another exchange. In the 21st century, there’s no reason it should take anywhere that long to send money. Experiences like these make it clear why crypto adoption is so critical.
UPDATE: I was contacted by Bitstamp customer support yesterday, and they asked me to send a copy of my wire deposit receipt. My deposit was received this morning. Counting the 2 bank holidays this week, this means that my deposit took 2 business days to arrive, which is not unusual.
So for anyone using Wells Fargo who notices that the routing number given in the Bitstamp wiring details is wrong, just call Wells Fargo and they will give you the right routing number, and your deposit should arrive safely.
Thank you very much, Bistamp!!
